August 26 is Women's Equality Day: Instituted by Bella Abzug & first established in 1971

Bella Abzug
August 26 is Women's Equality Day.
Instituted by Bella Abzug and first established in 1971, the date commemorates the August 26, 1920 passage of the 19th Amendment, which gave women in the United States the right to vote.
Bella is a Hunter alumna, and started her political career as the undergraduate student government president of Hunter College.
